“Revenge Porn” is new area of concern which developed out of cyberstalking. Revenge Porn recently became a recognized law in Florida.
“Revenge porn,” is also known as “sexual cyberharrassment.” This is a new area of cyberstalking law, which has only been recognized in Florida since October of 2015. This law makes it a makes it a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail, to transmit nude pictures with identifying information about the subject of the images, without that person’s consent. Victims may also sue for civil damages under the law.
As Director of the Palm Beach County Anti-Stalking Collaborative, Attorney Stephanie Cagnet Myron is the Collaborative creating and conducting trainings on the issues of cyberstalking and “revenge porn,” designed to educate college students and young professionals of the danger of sharing private photographs and images. There are devastating consequences when naked photographs are posted online without consent.
